Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal is set to take a vote of confidence in Parliament by March 13th. This move follows Dahal’s recent cabinet reshuffle and the formation of a new coalition government, replacing his previous alliance with the Nepali Congress (NC).
Dahal discussed the impending vote during the CPN (Maoist Centre)’s parliamentary party meeting on Saturday. Lawmakers have been ordered to remain in the capital in preparation. The Prime Minister may seek the vote as early as March 10th or 11th if necessary.
The reshuffle came after a rift with the NC over a transitional justice bill, with Dahal reportedly seeking better performance from his cabinet. The new coalition includes the Maoist Centre, CPN-UML, Rastriya Swatantra Party, and CPN (Unified Socialist).
Dahal defended the decision, claiming the previous alliance proved difficult to work with. CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli asserted that the current coalition will endure for four years.
Meanwhile, the opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to nominate a candidate for the vacant National Assembly chairmanship.
