Relatives of the victims of a recent road accident between Dailekh and Surkhet staged a protest in the provincial capital, Birendranagar, on Saturday. They claimed that negligence by the police has led to an increase in accidents in the area.
The accident occurred in Ratanagla, where a 15-seater vehicle carrying 34 passengers crashed. The protestors are demanding accountability from the Dailekh police check post personnel, appropriate compensation for the families of the deceased, and state-sponsored medical treatment for the injured.
The protestors also called for stricter enforcement of transportation laws, emphasizing that drivers and wealthy individuals who exceed passenger limits should face penalties.
The accident, involving vehicle number 02001 Kha 998 from Karnali Pradesh, happened on Friday while it was traveling from Dailekh to Surkhet. The crash at Birendranagar Municipality-14 Ratanangla resulted in four fatalities and 30 injuries.
Currently, 11 of the injured are receiving treatment in Nepalgunj, while nine are being treated at Karnali Pradesh Hospital. Surkhet police reported that 10 people have already been discharged.
