MUMBAI, India – The Punjab Kings have started their Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign with a dramatic 4-wicket victory over Delhi in a high-scoring match. After Delhi won the toss and elected to bat first, Punjab faced a challenging target of 175 runs to secure the win.
The chase was anything but easy, but a blistering 63 from Sam Curran and a crucial 38 from Liam Livingstone set the foundation for Punjab’s victory. Captain Shikhar Dhawan (22) and Prabhsimran Singh (26) also provided valuable contributions. Despite a strong effort from Delhi’s bowlers, including two wickets each for Kuldeep Yadav and Khaleel Ahmed, Punjab ultimately reached their target with 4 balls to spare, losing 6 wickets in the process.
Earlier in the match, Delhi put up a respectable total of 174 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. While no single Delhi batter dominated the innings, solid performances from David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Shai Hope, Rishabh Pant, Akshar Patel, and Abhishek Porel kept the scoreboard ticking. Punjab’s bowling attack, led by Harshal Patel and Arshdeep Singh who claimed two wickets each, restricted Delhi to a chaseable target.
