Led by a blistering century from Jonny Bairstow and explosive hitting by Shashank Singh, the Punjab Kings achieved a world record 8-wicket victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders in a thrilling Indian Premier League (IPL) match. Punjab surpassed the previous highest successful T20 chase, set by South Africa against the West Indies in 2023, by reaching a target of 262 runs.
Bairstow’s unbeaten 108 off just 48 balls, including 8 fours and 9 sixes, anchored the record-breaking chase. He was supported by opener Prabhsimran Singh’s rapid 54 off 20 balls and Shashank Singh’s unbeaten 68 off 28 balls.
Earlier, Kolkata posted a formidable 261/6 with standout performances from Philip Salt (75 off 37) and Sunil Narine (71 off 32). Punjab bowlers Arshdeep Singh (2 wickets) and Sam Curran, Harshal Patel, and Rahul Chahar (1 wicket each) helped limit the damage.
This historic victory solidifies the Punjab Kings as a force to be reckoned with in the IPL.
