Former Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane and three others involved in the Suryadarshan Cooperative fraud case are set to appear in the Kaski District Court today.
Lamichhane, previously the director of Gorkha Media, along with Leela Pachhai and Ram Bahadur of Nature Herbs, is accused of embezzling funds from Suryadarshan Sahakari. According to DSP Basanta Kumar Sharma, spokesperson for the District Police Office in Kaski, these individuals are being brought to court for a deadline extension on their investigation, which expired during the Tihar holiday.
Lamichhane’s political party, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RASWPA), has announced a demonstration in Pokhara, alleging that Lamichhane’s arrest is politically motivated. The protest is set to take place at Zero Kilometer, with party members rallying in support of their leader.
Lamichhane was taken into custody on October 18 from the RSP office in Kathmandu. Charges of organized crime have been filed against him and other associates, accusing them of misappropriating cooperative funds through Gorkha Media and engaging in fraudulent activities involving multiple parties.
