Kathmandu: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has officially expelled its suspended General Secretary, Dr. Mukul Dhakal, from the party, marking a significant disciplinary action within the party ranks.
The decision was made during a Central Committee (CC) meeting on Tuesday at the party’s central headquarters in Chamati. According to an official from the party, the expulsion was carried out following the recommendation of the party’s disciplinary commission, which had been reviewing Dr. Dhakal’s case.
Dr. Dhakal’s suspension had previously been put into effect after accusations surfaced that he was engaged in activities deemed harmful to the party’s interests. The party had initially provided him with 35 days to submit his clarification regarding the allegations.
However, despite the suspension and the opportunity to clarify his stance, Dr. Dhakal continued to publicly criticize the party leadership and policies, actions which further fueled tensions within the party. A senior party official stated that the decision to expel him was inevitable, as his ongoing actions were seen as a direct challenge to the party’s unity and discipline.
This expulsion reflects the RSP’s firm stance on maintaining internal discipline and underscores the seriousness with which the party views acts of dissent that threaten its cohesion. The situation has garnered considerable attention within political circles, highlighting the internal challenges faced by newer political parties in maintaining solidarity among their ranks.
