Reflector Entertainment has confirmed the layoffs of additional staff following the flop of Unknown 9: Awakening and the cancellation of a new project.

Speaking on LinkedIn, CEO Herve Hoerdt explained that this project was still in the conceptual phase but would have been unsustainable to continue. “This decision is directly related to the failure of the studio’s first ambitious and courageous project, a new IP with a rich transmedia universe. The performance of the release did not come close to the company’s expectations, after numerous timeline adjustments and investments, both financial and otherwise, and did not justify further iterations of this universe,” the release reads.

It therefore seems that the Unknown 9 universe has already come to an end, while the rest of the studio will focus on the development of a single project based on a pre-existing franchise from Bandai Namco, the publisher that owns the development studio.

Finally, the extent of the staff cuts is not known, but remember that Reflector had already laid off some of the staff last November.
