Flights have been on hold at Resunga Airport in Gulmi district for the past month due to inclement weather. The airport has been shrouded in thick fog and rain since late June, forcing Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) to suspend its thrice-weekly service.
Hundreds of passengers have been left stranded with unused tickets, turning up daily at the airport in hopes of a flight. Resunga Airport Chief Suman Thapa emphasized that the safety of passengers is paramount and that flights will resume only when weather conditions improve.
The airport typically operates with NAC’s 18-seater Twin Otter aircraft, offering morning flights to and from Kathmandu. Despite facing technical challenges due to afternoon winds, the airport has witnessed a surge in domestic and international tourist arrivals since commercial flights commenced last year.
With 125 flights operated between Resunga and Kathmandu in the past year, the airport has become a crucial link for the region. Located about five kilometers from the district headquarters, Tamghas, it has significantly boosted local tourism and economic activity.
