(The Ditible) — Young batsman Rohit Paudel has cemented his place in Nepalese cricket history by becoming the player to captain the most matches in T20Is. Paudel achieved this record during the ACC Premier Cup 2024 match against Hong Kong, where Nepal competed for third place.
Paudel has now captained Nepal in 28 matches since assuming the role in 2023. With this, he surpasses former captain Paras Khadka, who led the team in 27 matches.
Under Paudel’s leadership, Nepal boasts a strong record with 16 wins against 9 losses in T20Is. One of the most notable achievements during his tenure was leading the team to a decisive 8-wicket victory over the UAE in the semi-final of the ICC T20 World Qualifier A, propelling Nepal into the World Cup.
Paudel’s record outshines that of his predecessors. Paras Khadka, who captained Nepal in 27 matches from 2014 to 2019, had a record of 11 wins and 15 losses. Similarly, Gyanendra Malla (2019-2021) led the team in 12 matches with 9 wins and 3 losses, while Sandeep Lamichhane (2022) captained 18 matches with 13 wins and 5 losses.
Rohit Paudel’s captaincy extends beyond T20Is, having led Nepal in 36 ODI matches since 2022. He remains Nepal’s most experienced captain in this format, surpassing Paras Khadka (6 matches), Gyanendra Malla (10 matches) and Sandeep Lamichhane (14 matches).
