Toronto: The Toronto Nationals, Joined by Nepali captain Rohit Kumar Paudel, have emerged victorious in the Global T20 League, defeating the Montreal Tigers by a convincing 8-wicket margin in the final.
Chasing a modest target of 97 runs, Toronto cruised to victory with 30 balls to spare, losing just two wickets in the process. Andris Goss and Rassie van der Dussen were the standout performers with scores of 58 and 30 respectively.
Earlier, Montreal had managed a total of 96 runs for the loss of nine wickets, with Corbin Bosch top-scoring with 35 runs. Toronto’s Jason Behrendorff was the star bowler, claiming three crucial wickets to be named Player of the Match.
The Nationals had booked their place in the final after defeating the Brampton Wolves in the second qualifier. The league’s first qualifier was abandoned due to rain, with Montreal advancing as the top-ranked team.
Despite the presence of Nepali stars Sandeep Lamichhane and Dipendra Singh Airee, their team failed to make it past the league stage.
Paudel’s captaincy and the team’s overall performance have been instrumental in their championship win, bringing pride to Nepali cricket.
