Rolpa Police Destroy Opium Farm

Rolpa Opium Farm

Koshi Haraicha, Koshi Province, Nepal – Police in Rolpa district have maintained their vigilance against illegal opium cultivation, destroying a plantation in the Paribartan Rural Municipality. This recent action follows a series of successful operations against opium growers in the region.

On Saturday, a team led by District Police Office Chief Deputy Superintendent of Police Bharat Lama and National Investigation Office Rolpa Chief Kushal Thapamagar destroyed approximately 7-8 opium plants. The plantation covered an area of 1 Ropani in the Hamdhara region, situated 4 kilometers west of the district headquarters, Liwang.

District Police Office Rolpa spokesperson and Information Officer, Inspector Ram Narayan Gupta, highlighted that this is not the first time police have targeted this area. Last year, a large-scale opium plantation in the nearby village of Khola was destroyed.

Further, Inspector Gupta detailed previous successful operations against opium cultivation. In April 2023, police destroyed 18,000 plants in Pakhapani, 7,500 plants in multiple locations within Paribartan Rural Municipality, and an additional 9 katthas worth of opium plants in Paribartan’s Sinjakhola.

These repeated operations demonstrate the Rolpa police’s ongoing commitment to combating the illegal cultivation of opium within the district.
