A demonstration held by the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) turned violent, resulting in clashes with police. Police deployed water cannons and batons in an attempt to disperse protestors who retaliated by throwing stones.
The RPP procession began at Bhrikutimandap with a 40-point list of demands, including the abolition of the republic, the reinstatement of a monarchy, and the declaration of Nepal as a Hindu nation. Tensions rose when police prevented the procession from entering a restricted area.
RPP president Rajendra Lingden led the demonstration. Security has been increased in the restricted area.
