RPP-led Protests

Biratchowk, Nepal – A mass demonstration organized by the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) turned chaotic today in the capital as protesters attempted to breach restricted zones. The RPP is leading a movement for the reinstatement of a constitutional monarchy in Nepal and the abolition of secularism.

Police resorted to firing tear gas and deploying water cannons in an attempt to disperse the crowd. Several injuries have been reported on both sides, though the exact number remains unclear.

The demonstration began peacefully but escalated as protesters surged towards prohibited government areas. Authorities had declared several locations off-limits ahead of the RPP rally.

In a statement, the RPP condemned the police response, calling it an “excessive use of force” against peaceful demonstrators. However, government officials maintain that the measures were necessary to uphold security and order.

The protest highlights the ongoing political tensions in Nepal as groups like the RPP continue to advocate for a return to a Hindu monarchy.
