A major railway accident was averted early Saturday morning as at least 20 coaches of the Sabarmati Express derailed near Kanpur railway station. Despite the severity of the derailment, miraculously, no passengers or railway staff were injured.
The incident occurred around 2:30 AM as the train was en route to Jhansi from Varanasi. Initial investigations suggest that the train collided with a large boulder placed on the tracks, causing the engine to derail and subsequently leading to the cascading derailment of multiple coaches.
Railway authorities have initiated a comprehensive inquiry into the incident, with the possibility of sabotage not being ruled out. Security agencies, including the Intelligence Bureau, are assisting in the investigation.
To manage the disruption caused by the derailment, seven trains have been canceled and three others diverted. Railway officials have deployed buses and special trains to transport stranded passengers to their destinations.
While the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, the incident has raised concerns about railway safety and the potential for sabotage.
