Rescue efforts are underway to locate five individuals missing after a devastating landslide struck Rishi, Dharche Rural Municipality-5, Singla, in North Gorkha on Sunday.
Despite a search operation launched immediately following the incident, the victims remained unaccounted for, prompting a renewed search this morning. Nepal Police, the Nepali Army, Armed Police Force, and residents are collaborating in the rescue mission.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramesh Kumar Shrestha explained that the extensive damage caused to homes and agricultural land by the landslide has hindered search efforts. The missing individuals are identified as Jit Bahadur Gurung, 35, Kanchi Gurung, 60, Sulal Kancha Gurung, 33, Ramesh Gurung, and 24-year-old Ramesh Pariyar.
Authorities believe that the landslide debris, which reached the Budhigandaki River, may have swept away the missing persons. The search has now expanded to the riverbanks and surrounding areas.
The community is reeling from the tragedy as rescuers work tirelessly to bring closure to the affected families.
