Luis Masaveu, a 22-year-old golfer from Madrid, will be the golfer who completes the Fireballs team captained by Sergio García at LIV Golf. The young man who this year made the cut at the British Open, the first major of his career that he still played as an amateur, and a semifinalist in the US Amateur will occupy the place left by Eugenio López Chacarra, the first Spaniard to win a tournament on this circuit.

Masaveu meets the requirements that the Borriol golfer had in mind. Young and with a very interesting international future, he maintains the line that García has when it comes to signing. “I’m here to catch a 40-year-old,” he confessed to MARCA last Wednesday.

The Spaniard, who will form a squad with David Puig and the Mexican Abraham Ancer, also distanced himself from the route that the majority of Spanish players have followed in recent years of leaving the country to polish the jump to professionals on American campuses. Masaveu is a student at the Francisco de Vitoria University of Madrid.

“Few people have impressed me like him,” says Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño, his coach. “This year he has evolved a lot with his swing. Little is said about what he did in the US Amateur because Josele Ballester won, but only Sergio had gotten there before among the Spanish.” The seven-time DP World Tour winner highlights his talent and discipline. “He’s Germanic. Or Japanese. He’s one of the players you have to end up stopping because he lives for this.”
