ZARANJ, Afghanistan – A tragic vehicle accident in Afghanistan’s Nimroz province has resulted in the deaths of seven people and injuries to three others. The rollover took place on Friday night on a road connecting Dilaram district to Zaranj, the provincial capital. Among the dead are four men, two women, and a child. Three others, including a child, were injured.
Provincial traffic police official Abidullah Mirwais confirmed the details of the accident. Further specifics on the incident are still being gathered.
This marks the second deadly road accident in Afghanistan this week. On Wednesday, a passenger bus overturned in the eastern Ghazni province, killing six and injuring 32.
Afghan officials cite reckless driving, congested roads, inadequate safety measures, and poorly maintained highways as major contributors to the high rate of fatal road accidents within the country. According to the latest data from national traffic authorities, over 1,600 people have been killed and more than 4,000 injured in road accidents over the last ten months.
