The Sherpa community of Nepal is celebrating the vibrant festival of Gyalpo Lhosar today with various programs and festivities. This year marks the 2151st Gyalpo Lhosar, a celebration of the new year according to the Lunar calendar.
Gyalpo Losar falls on Falgun Shukla Pratipada and signifies the beginning of a new year. The Sherpa people celebrate by exchanging warm greetings, cleaning their homes and surroundings, and enjoying a special dish called Guthuk, a delicious mix of nine different food items.
This festival is a time for fostering social unity, reconnecting with loved ones, and finding forgiveness and reconciliation.
President Ram Chandra Paudel extended his best wishes on the occasion of Gyalpo Lhosar, highlighting the importance of social harmony, brotherhood, and goodwill amongst all Nepalis, both at home and living abroad.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ also extended his Lhosar greetings, emphasizing the rich cultural and religious diversity that makes Nepal unique.
