The Shesh Narayan Temple in Pharping, located on the outskirts of Kathmandu, is witnessing a massive influx of devotees today, as the annual fair dedicated to Lord Vishnu commences.
Celebrated on Asar Shukla Ekadashi, the festival draws thousands of worshippers seeking blessings from the deity. Considered one of the four most significant Narayan temples in the Kathmandu Valley, Shesh Narayan holds immense religious importance.
According to Hindu beliefs, Lord Vishnu enters a state of slumber for four months, starting from Asar Shukla Ekadashi and ending on Kattik Shukla Ekadashi. Devotees believe that visiting and praying at the temple on this day brings prosperity, peace, and spiritual merit to their families.
Local authorities have deployed additional security personnel and public representatives to manage the large crowds and ensure the smooth conduct of the fair.
As Tulsi is considered a sacred plant closely associated with Lord Vishnu, many devotees will also be transferring their Tulsi plants to new pots as part of the day’s rituals.
Similar scenes of devotion are being witnessed at Narayan temples across the country as Hindus celebrate this auspicious occasion.
