Simaltal Bus Accident: Death Toll Rises to Five as Search Continues

Five bodies have been recovered from the Narayani River following a devastating Simaltal Bus Accident due to landslide on the Narayangadh-Muglin road. The landslide, which occurred on Friday morning, caused two buses to careen into the Trishuli River.

Officials with the Chitwan District Administration Office confirmed all five bodies recovered yesterday and today in the Gaindakot and Meghauli areas are passengers from the missing buses.

Chief District Officer Indradev Yadav identified two of the deceased as Indian citizens: Sajjad Ansari, who was traveling from Birgunj to Kathmandu; and Jaiprakash Thakur, who was headed to Rautahat from Kathmandu via Bharatpur. Both men hailed from Bettiah in West Champaran, India.

These recoveries bring the total number of confirmed fatalities to three, with seven Indian nationals among the missing passengers. There were reportedly 65 people on board the two buses. Three passengers are known to be safe, while search efforts continue for the remaining 57.

The search for the missing buses and passengers remains ongoing.
