Two buses carrying dozens of passengers remain missing after being swept away by a landslide and falling into the Trishuli River near Simaltal in Chitwan, Nepal.
Divers from the army, armed police, and Nepal Police have been searching the river since Friday, but have only recovered the bodies of three people. Efforts to locate the missing passengers and the submerged buses continue today.
The District Administration Office of Chitwan has announced the use of a large magnet to aid the search. Home Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal, along with Central Security Chiefs, also visited the accident site today for an inspection.
The incident occurred last Friday when landslides struck the area. Two buses, Bagmati Province No. 03-001 Kha 2495 (Gaur-Kathmandu route) and Bagmati Province No. 03-006 Kha 1516 (Birgunj-Kathmandu route), were involved. Reports suggest there were a total of 51 passengers onboard – 27 on the Gaur-bound bus and 24 on the Birgunj-bound bus.
The fate of the missing passengers remains unknown, and authorities are working tirelessly to locate them.
