In a positive development for Nepali workers seeking opportunities abroad, South Korea has announced a major expansion of its Employment Permit System (EPS). Starting in 2024, Nepali workers will be eligible for jobs in three new sectors: service, forestry, and root industries. This significantly broadens the scope of employment available to Nepali migrants.

Previously, the EPS program primarily focused on placing Nepali workers in agricultural, manufacturing, and shipbuilding roles. This expansion marks a significant shift in policy.

The EPS Korea Section, the government body responsible for managing the program, has confirmed an increase in the number of available positions. An increase of roughly 13% in seats is expected compared to the previous year.
