Spain Makes History

Spain etched their name in European Championship history, securing a record-breaking fourth title with a thrilling 2-1 victory over England in the Berlin final.

This triumph marks a dominant run for La Roja. Nico Williams opened the scoring in the 47th minute, but England’s Cole Palmer equalized in the 73rd, sending shivers down Spanish spines. Just as a draw seemed inevitable, Mikel Oyarzabal rose to the occasion in the 86th minute, snatching the winner and sparking jubilant celebrations.

Spain’s journey to glory began in 1964, the second edition of the Euros. They then secured consecutive victories in 2008 and 2012, solidifying their position as the tournament’s most successful team. Meanwhile, England’s wait for their first Euros title continues. This marks their second consecutive runner-up finish, following their penalty shootout heartbreak against Italy in Euro 2021.

Spain’s path to victory was nothing short of remarkable. They achieved an immaculate record, winning all seven matches played. Their offensive prowess was evident with 15 goals scored, while their defense held strong, conceding only 4 goals throughout the tournament. Their victories included a dominant 4-1 win over newcomers Georgia in the last 16, followed by triumphs over host Germany, France, and finally, England in the finals – all with an identical 2-1 scoreline.

England, on the other hand, also showcased impressive defensive displays with clean sheets against Croatia, Italy, and Albania in the group stages. However, they ultimately fell short in the final against a resurgent Spain.
