Sudurpaschim Province Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah submitted his resignation to provincial chief Najir Mia on Thursday evening. This comes after political shifts destabilized the Congress-led government, making it unlikely he could secure a vote of confidence.
Shah’s move preempts a provincial assembly meeting initially scheduled for 3 pm, where he was to seek a vote of confidence. The meeting was postponed until 5 pm but ultimately adjourned following the resignation.
Despite being the largest in the state assembly with 18 MPs, the Congress party faced challenges in maintaining their government after the Maoists, leading the central government, changed alliances. Shah attempted to secure support from other parties, including Naupa, RPP, and an independent MP but was ultimately unsuccessful.
