An employee implicated in the corruption case involving the Surakshan Printing Center’s purchase of a security printing press has been found dead. Senior Divisional Engineer Navin Kumar Pokharel was discovered hanging on Thursday, according to the District Police Complex in Bhaktapur. A suicide note was found at the scene, leading police to suspect suicide.
The note reportedly states that no one is responsible for Pokharel’s death. The post-mortem examination was conducted on Thursday at KMC Medical College in Duwakot, with the results still pending.
Pokharel, who previously held a Deputy Secretary position in the Ministry of Forestry and Environment, was convicted by the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority. On May 21st, a special court found him, along with former executive director Bikal Poudel, Rohitman Pradhan (managing director of Engineering Marketing Concern), and Bhuwan Maharjan (director of Meptech Building Services), guilty of corruption. They received prison sentences and fines. Meanwhile, five other individuals accused by the Abuse of Authority Investigation Commission were acquitted.
