Tanahu, Nepal – The tragic Indian bus accident in Tanahun district continues to unfold with a rising death toll. As of 1 PM, 14 bodies have been recovered from the Indian-registered bus that plunged into the Marsyangdi River.
Rescue efforts remain ongoing, with 16 injured passengers having been pulled from the wreckage. The bus, bearing the registration number UP 53 FT 7623, fell from Ainapahara on Friday morning while traveling from Pokhara to Kathmandu.
Authorities fear that the casualty count may rise as rescue operations continue. Tanahu DSP Deepak Kumar Rai stated that there were 43 people on board the bus, including the driver and co-driver.
A dedicated rescue team of 45 personnel, including divers, has been mobilized to the accident site. The challenging terrain has necessitated the use of ropes for rescuers to reach the bus and conduct the rescue operation.
