The situation in Sunsari district is returning to normal after a curfew was imposed following clashes between two groups in the Harinagar and Dewanganj Rural Municipality areas. The violence erupted after a youth was beaten at an SEE examination venue.
The permanent Chief District Officer of Sunsari, Bednidhi Phuyal, reports no further incidents since the curfew was implemented. “The situation is becoming normal,” he stated, “It is not out of control.”
Political parties in Sunsari have appealed for calm and harmony. The Nepali Congress Sunsari expressed concern over disruptions to religious, cultural, and social unity. The CPN UML Sunsari similarly urged religious tolerance and asked for everyone to remain calm while the incident is investigated and those responsible are brought to justice.
