Amid escalating tensions surrounding the disposal of the Saraswati idol in Ishnath Municipality, Rautahat, the local administration has taken decisive measures by expanding the scope of the curfew imposed yesterday.
The clash that erupted between two communities over the controversy surrounding the disposal of the goddess Saraswati idol post-Saraswati Puja prompted the District Administration Office (DAO) in Rautahat to extend the curfew to cover Wards 6 and 7 of Ishnath Municipality yesterday evening.
However, with communal tensions showing no signs of abating, the DAO has now extended the curfew order to encompass Wards 2, 3, 4, and 5 as well today.
Hiralal Regmi, the Chief District Officer (CDO), revealed that more than 1,500 security officers are actively patrolling the affected areas to ensure the safety of residents. The extension of the curfew aims to prevent further untoward incidents and safeguard public property.
CDO Regmi emphasized the crucial need to maintain peace and prevent any damage to both public and private assets. He clarified that the curfew order would persist in the concerned areas until further notice.
The clash on Saturday resulted in injuries to more than six locals, highlighting the gravity of the situation and the urgency for effective measures to restore calm in the region. Authorities remain vigilant, working towards a resolution that promotes harmony and coexistence among the affected communities.
