It seems like a joke, but almost six years have passed since the Star Wars franchise released its last film in the cinema, which for many has been a significant decline, and many did not really like the trilogy that includes the episodes seven through nine. However, Disney has not given up trying to return this brand to its greatness, so it would already have plans to add highly relevant actors and thus attract the attention of old fans as well as new ones.
Actor Ryan Gosling, known for his work in Barbie, Blade Runner: 2049 and La La Land, is in talks to star in an upcoming film in this universe. According to reports, Gosling would be the main candidate for director Shawn Levy, responsible for hits like Deadpool and The Adam Project, to lead this Lucasfilm project.
The feature film, whose script was written by Jonathan Tropper, has been in development since 2022, but the possible incorporation of Gosling would have significantly accelerated its production. Close sources indicate that filming could begin in late 2025, making this film one of the first on the revamped Star Wars schedule. If confirmed, it would mark a turning point in the franchise’s strategy, moving away from the stories of the iconic Skywalker Saga.
Although details about the plot and setting remain under wraps, it has been confirmed that the film will seek to explore new stories and characters. This autonomous approach aligns with Lucasfilm’s efforts to diversify the canon, offering independent stories that expand the richness of the galaxy without rely on traditional narrative arcs.
The actor’s participation could be a great boost for this project, reinforcing Disney’s commitment to revitalize the franchise on the big screen. After the success of its streaming series, Star Wars seems ready to resume its place in theaters with fresh proposals far from conventional molds. Furthermore, we cannot forget that The Mandalorian will also have its own movie in 2026.
