The traditional ‘Allstate Sugar Bowl’ of college football, which was going to take place this Wednesday at the ‘Caesars Superdome’ in New Orleans (Louisiana) has been postponed to Thursday after the attack that left at least 10 people dead.
“The quarterfinals of the 2025 college football playoffs at the ‘Allstate Sugar Bowl’ have been postponed until tomorrow. We will communicate more details as they become available,” the game’s organizing committee reported through its networks. Shortly afterward, the executive director of the ‘Allstate Sugar Bowl’, Jeff Hundley, confirmed it at a press conference. “Right now that’s the plan,” Hundley said.
The attack that caused the postponement of the game occurred early this Wednesday on Bourbon Street, a popular French neighborhood, where dozens of people were celebrating the new year and preparing to enjoy the college football quarterfinal game.
Information from the local police confirmed that the attacker was killed by police officers once he got out of the vehicle and fired several shots. “He was determined to cause the massacre and the damage he caused. It was intentional behavior. This man was trying to run over as many people as possible,” police commissioner Anne Kirkpatrick reported.
The ‘Sugar Bowl’ has been held since 1935. In this edition the Georgia Bulldogs, the second best team in college football, would face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the number three seed.

“We are deeply saddened by the news of the devastating incident in New Orleans. Our thoughts are with the victims, the New Orleans community and all those affected,” adds the NFL’s letter. Super Bowl LIX on February 9 will be the eighth to be played at the Caesars Superdome.
