They explain why Nintendo Switch 2 will be backward compatible

Last week during the reveal of Switch 2, some of the leaks regarding the console were confirmed to us, these range from the second port for USB-C, larger screen size, Joy Con with buttons and additional, and of course, software backward compatibility. This is something that relieved users’ concerns, and the company has recently mentioned why they chose that path.

Backwards compatibility was considered by Nintendo as a key aspect in the development of its device. According to a company representative, the decision was based on the current console’s huge user base. “Many consumers play Nintendo Switch, and we decided that the best direction to go would be for consumers to be able to play their already purchased software on the successor,” he stated.

Additionally, Switch 2 will not only support previous-generation games, but will also feature an exclusive catalog of titles designed to make the most of its improved hardware. This approach ensures that users can enjoy their favorite games without interruption, while also accessing new experiences, many of which will be exclusive, causing many to move to the new one.

Backwards compatibility promises to be a major selling point for Switch 2, giving players a seamless transition and reinforcing continuity in content offerings within the Nintendo ecosystem. In addition, some games like Metroid Prime 4 Beyond are already promised, so changing the platform focally would not be a good idea for those who got the first console in Christmas 2024.

We will have to wait until April 2 to find out more information about the console.
