Effective immediately, aircraft landings from the north side “two-zero” point of Tribhuvan International Airport’s (TIA) runway are banned for three months. All landings will now utilize the southern “zero-two” point. This change is due to ongoing taxiway construction and expansion work as part of the airport’s infrastructure improvement project.
Kathmandu Airport General Manager, Pratap Babu Tiwari, advises that this shift may temporarily increase pressure on the southern runway. Mountain and domestic flights could experience some impact.
The construction work will alternate to the south side of the runway once the north side is complete. These improvements aim to increase the overall capacity of the airport.
