Meteorologists have predicted light rainfall in the hilly regions of Nepal, particularly in the Koshi Province, due to the combined influence of local and western winds. This rainfall is expected to persist through Sunday and Monday.
While Tuesday may witness slightly heavier rainfall compared to the previous days, it is unlikely to match the intensity of the downpour experienced on Kartik 18th and 19th. The impact of this rainfall will be most noticeable in the Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki regions.
The recent decrease in rainfall has contributed to an increase in air pollution levels, especially in urban areas. Heavy rainfall is essential to effectively cleanse the air, but the current weather conditions do not indicate such a significant event.
However, Dr. Vinod Pokharel, an associate professor at Tribhuvan University, suggests that the ongoing western wind influence will continue to bring rain to certain areas until next Wednesday, offering some relief from the air pollution. He emphasized that while the situation may improve slightly, it won’t fully mitigate the severe air pollution that has affected neighboring countries like Pakistan and India.
Kathmandu Valley, in particular, has experienced increased morning air pollution. As of 7:00 AM today, areas like Ratnapark, Khumaltar, Bhaktapur, Bharatpur, Nepalgunj, and Dhankuta have recorded very poor air quality levels.
