Early results in the ongoing U.S. presidential election show Republican candidate and former president Donald Trump leading in North Carolina.
With 26 percent of the votes counted in the state, Trump holds 53.7 percent of the vote, compared to Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, who has 45.1 percent. Trump also has a lead in neighboring South Carolina.
According to the latest projections, Trump is currently ahead in the overall electoral count, with 162 electoral votes, while Harris has 34.
