Nepal and the United Kingdom reaffirmed their strong ties during a special ceremony at Prime Minister Sunak’s office, marking the 100th anniversary of their Treaty of Friendship.
Prime Minister Sunak committed to furthering cooperation in trade, investment, economic relations, and climate change. He acknowledged the historical bond between the two nations and praised the invaluable role of the Gurkhas in strengthening their bilateral relationship. Inspired by Nepal’s thriving diaspora, Sunak expressed a desire to build on this foundation.
British Minister Trevelyan echoed this sentiment, highlighting the UK’s ongoing development assistance to Nepal. She pledged to expand economic ties and support Nepal’s journey towards becoming a middle-income country.
Nepali Ambassador Acharya conveyed greetings from Prime Minister Prachanda and discussed the significance of the 1923 treaty. He emphasized Nepal’s progress in the international arena and advancements achieved with British support. Confident about the future, Acharya envisioned a deeper partnership encompassing new areas in the next century.
The ceremony brought together the Nepali community, Gurkhas, British parliamentarians, and prominent figures from various UK professions and businesses.
