Varun Chakravarthy’s exceptional performance helps the Kolkata Knight Riders secure a playoff spot against Mumbai Indians, Sliding into the Purple Cap race.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) celebrated their qualification for the IPL playoffs with an 18-run victory over Mumbai Indians (MI). Varun Chakravarthy played a pivotal role in the win, taking 2/17 in his four overs and earning the Player of the Match award.

Chakravarthy’s standout moment came when he dismissed MI captain Rohit Sharma, a wicket he had meticulously planned for. He revealed his strategy of forcing Sharma to hit across the line, which proved successful.

The spinner also discussed his collaboration with Sunil Narine, highlighting their tactical differences despite technical similarities. He emphasized learning from Narine’s continuous improvement and applying those lessons to his own game.

Reflecting on his slow start to the season, Chakravarthy attributed it to the flat wickets and challenging conditions earlier in the tournament. He emphasized that his bowling approach remained consistent, and the recent favorable results were a testament to that.

With 18 wickets in 12 games, Chakravarthy is now among the top contenders for the Purple Cap, trailing only Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel.
