For the first time, jeeps and taxis have reached the remote village of Olangchung Gola in Taplejung’s Phaktanglung Rural Municipality-7, thanks to the recent completion of a road track. This milestone brought prominent political figures, including UML President KP Sharma Oli and government ministers, for a visit just two days later.
The road to Olangchung Gola was initially constructed several years ago through a local initiative and extends to the Tiptala Pass bordering China. The new extension connects the village to the district headquarters in Fungling. Despite the 24-kilometer proximity to Tibet, the Nepal-China border remains closed due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Olangchung Gola, a high-altitude village of 56 houses, warmly welcomed the drivers of the first arriving vehicles.
