Dhaka, Bangladesh: Violent clashes have resumed between students and police in Bangladesh following protests against the government’s job reservation system. Over 200 people lost their lives during the demonstrations, which initially focused on the demand for the complete removal of the 30% job quota for the families of freedom fighters.
Although the Supreme Court’s decision to reduce the quota to 5% temporarily eased tensions, allowing students to focus on supporting the families of victims, violence has reignited in major cities, including Dhaka.
According to a BBC report, police in the northeastern city of Sylhet used force to disperse protesters who had attacked officers. Dozens of tear gas canisters were fired to control the situation.
The student movement, known as the “March for Justice,” continues despite the ongoing violence.
