Koshi Province holds the unfortunate distinction of having the highest reported violent crime rate among Nepal’s seven provinces. This is according to the Nepal Police’s recently released annual progress report.
The report reveals that a total of 5,150 violent crimes, including murder, rape, murder after rape, human trafficking, and thefts, were recorded nationwide in the past year. Of these, Koshi Province alone accounts for a concerning 1,066 cases. Gandaki Province follows with 312 such crimes, while Karnali Province recorded the lowest number.
Statistics indicate a troubling trend, with an average of 166 crime cases filed daily across Nepal. Additionally, the report highlights that Madhesh Province has the highest prevalence of crimes against women and children.
