A woman has tragically lost her life while undergoing a biopsy procedure at Bharatpur Hospital in Chitwan.
Samjhana Kafle Dhakal, a 39-year-old resident of Gaindakot Municipality, Ward No. 5, passed away on Tuesday after complications arose during the procedure. The biopsy was scheduled to remove a suspected uterine cyst.
According to Gopal Poudel, the information officer at Bharatpur Hospital, the deceased woman had a pre-existing heart condition. Despite being placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after her condition deteriorated, medical staff were unable to save her.
The hospital’s medical superintendent, Prof. Dr. Krishna Prasad Paudel, stated that the patient’s health took a sudden turn for the worse immediately following the administration of spinal anesthesia. He emphasized that further investigations are underway to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Relatives of the deceased have accused the hospital of medical negligence, claiming that the woman’s death could have been prevented with proper care. She leaves behind a daughter and a son.
The incident has prompted renewed scrutiny of the hospital’s medical practices and raised concerns about the safety of patients undergoing surgical procedures.
