A 57-year-old woman was electrocuted in Baitadi on Monday afternoon. Janaki Luhar, a resident of Dungra in Patan Municipality-6, died after coming into contact with a live wire while hanging wet clothes on a clothesline at her home.
According to Khemraj Luhar, a relative of the deceased and an executive committee member of Patan Municipality, the incident occurred around 4:30 PM. The woman was severely injured and was rushed to a nearby hospital but did not survive the journey.
It is believed that the accident happened due to a faulty meter box located in the kitchen of the house. The clothesline was connected to the same circuit as the meter box, and the woman was electrocuted when she touched the wire.
Local police are investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the accident and to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
