Either-or always puts companies in difficulty, even and especially large ones: few would have ever imagined, however, that, as reported by The Information, Microsoft too had found itself faced with a situation of this type, far from easy to manage.
The thorny situation affected the company’s gaming sector, therefore Xbox and Xbox Game Pass, with Microsoft apparently finding itself faced with a less than reassuring crossroads: close Xbox or focus entirely on acquisitions to relaunch the brand . The acquisitions of Activision Blizzard, Bethesda and beyond thus take on a new meaning.
The acquisition of Activision itself should have, originally, constituted an impetus for the Azure cloud server system, which should have been used for the new Call of Duty, which instead is still supported on servers owned by other properties, such as Google .
Another interesting fact concerns Game Pass: before the acquisition of Activision went through, Microsoft’s forecast was for 100 million users signed up to the subscription service by 2030, a goal that right now seems practically unattainable given that the latest data shows less than 50 million total subscribers.
We obviously point out that none of this information comes directly from Microsoft: there have been no official press releases or statements from company representatives to support what was stated in the report. We therefore invite you to take what is reported with due caution.
